Joan Denise Clark

Joan, my sister, suffered from early onset brain atrophy and anxiety prior to her accidental fall which resulted in unrecoverable brain damage and subsequent donation of her lungs, liver and kidneys. I wrote this poem in her honor.

Joan, You walked the path of the lonely, a single mother struggling to provide for your children’s future, never letting your own exhaustion dim the light you provided.

Joan always prioritized others over herself and continued this generosity in death through organ donation.

Through the fog of a fading mind and the weight of anxiety, you fought for every moment of clarity, a silent warrior against a ferocious storm.

You bore the grief of parents gone and a child estranged, carrying your memories alone, you never let disappointment turn your heart to stone.

When the world grew quiet and the walls felt close, you whispered his Name and he held you steady, trusting in a promise that reached beyond this earth.

My dear sister, the battle is over; the anxiety stilled. You have traded the heavy armor of this life for a crown of peace, reunited with our parents in the presence of our Savior. You are my hero.
