While nothing can prepare you for the loss of a loved one, we offer numerous services, programs, and information to help support you and your family.

Helping Those Who Are Grieving
Our team can assist you with the following:
Gift of Life Donor Program’s Family Support Services department is comprised of master’s-level mental health professionals who help families and friends of donors cope with the loss of a loved one. Link to learn more about the team.
- Phone support or check-ins.
- Short-term grief counseling in our Philadelphia office or via Zoom.
- Referrals to support groups and grief counselors in your community

Donor Family Connections
Online Grief Support/Organizations: We have additional information on local, regional and national organizations and groups related to different types of loss and grief. Click here to learn more.
Donor Family Facebook Group: Our private donor family group provides a safe, supportive environment in which to share experiences and encouragement. Learn how to join.
Hearts of Gold: This group meets most months, primarily via Zoom, for support and presentations on topics related to grief and organ and tissue donation. Send an email to our Family Services team for details about joining.
Writing to a Transplant Recipient
The time may come when you wish to communicate with the recipients of your loved one’s organs or tissue. Family Support Services can assist you in the writing process by providing you with ideas on what to write. We also facilitate the delivery of all letters and correspondence between donor families and transplant recipients. Additionally, if you would like to get updates on the health of the recipients of your loved one’s gifts, Family Support Services will assist you.
